Coeburn, Va. April 10, 2018 Reported by David Gregory — The Eastside softball and baseball teams picked up Cumberland district wins over the visiting Pioneers Tuesday at home. Coach Suzi Atwood’s Lady Spartans pounded out 23 hits defeating the Lady Pioneers 24-0. Coach Chris Clay’s baseball team chalked up 11-hits winning 19-1.

In The Lady Spartans 24-0 victory Kiarra Gibson got the win for the Lady Spartans striking out 6 in three innings of work. Kacie Jones led the Lady Spartans with 4 hits, scoring 4 runs. Lacey Austin, Emily Moore, Jayme Salyers, and Hannah Buchanan each had three hits and scored three runs in the win. Emily Moore and Carrie Boyd blasted home runs for Eastside.

Madison Mayes and Talyn Dibrell each had a base hit for Thomas Walker. Hannah Schwartz took the loss in the circle for the Lady Pioneers.
Austin Rittenberry earned the win on the mound for the Spartans, striking out 5 while giving up 1 hit in three innings of work. Peyton Pope paced the Spartan offense with 2 hits, 3 rbi, and 2 runs scored. Drew Richards had a pair of hits and scored 4 runs. Cole Harness, Logan Porter, and Noah Richards also recorded two hits for Eastside.

Caleb Yeary picked the lone Pioneer base hit. Kaleb Sharrett took the loss on the mound.
