The new Clinch River Little League indoor batting cage, adjacent to the Scotty White Field, behind the Russell County Fairgrounds is nearing completion. League President Bob Salyers stated they hope to be finished with the construction of the building by the end of September 2018. The 80′ x 40′ building will house three batting cages that will be available for use by girls and boys in all age divisions of Clinch River Little League. Two of the cages will be used for batting and will be set up for machine and live pitching. The third cage will be used for pitching work only.
The batting cage was built, from the ground up, by volunteer workers from the surrounding area and by detainees from Camp 18 in Flatwoods, VA. Salyers thanked everyone who had put in time working on the project with a special thanks to those from Camp 18 at Flatwoods saying, “They did a lot of the work, we couldn’t have gotten it done without them.” Salyers also said that the league still needs donations from the community to complete the project, which began in August of 2017. “We still have to install the insulation and the heat-pump for cooling and heating, and pour the concrete floor.”
The Clinch River Little League and its volunteers have served the St. Paul and Castlewood area children very well for many years. If you are interested in donating to this worthy cause you’re contribution would be greatly appreciated.
