Suzanne opened the meeting at 11:00 AM.
The Reading of the Minutes were dismissed.
Suzanne then gave an update on recent and upcoming events:
- The Riverview Cemetery Memorial Day event was held on Friday, May 23rd. Several veterans and East Stone Gap residents were present and will be instrumental in an update of the cemetery records.
- The Book Signing event on Saturday, May 24th with Jordan Dotson which was co-sponsored with The Appalachian Writing Project, the Southwest Virginia Museum, and the C. Bascom Slemp Museum was a success.
- The genealogy workshop held on June 3rd in the Wise Regional Library was conducted by the Love Lady DAR, supported by the Wise County Historical Society and the Wise County Regional Library.
- The Scotia Mining Exhibit was well received at the Scotia Mine Explosions Roundtable held Saturday, June 7th at MECC.
Updates on the grant applications were given.
- Virginia Humanities/Wise awarded WCHS a Planning Grant for $4,975.
- The RAPHA Board approved $2,500 to WCHS to purchase a copier/printer.
New Business
- The Advisory Council will meet on Thursday, June 26th at 4:00PM in the WCHS Office.
- The next WCHS regular meeting will be held Saturday, August 16th in the Lonesome Pine School and Heritage Center: 511 Clinton Avenue E., Big Stone Gap.
