PRO-ART’S CAMP CREATE HEADS TO THE SWAMP!

Norton, VA – This summer, Camp Create! welcomed students for a month-long residency at Central High School—and now they’re ready to take the stage. Pro-Art’s Camp Create! proudly presents the hilarious stage spectacle “Shrek The Musical JR.” on Friday, July 25th and Saturday, July 26th at 6 p.m. at Central High School in Norton. The performances are free and open to the public, but donations to the long-term sustainability of the camp are appreciated. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the show.​

Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in “Shrek The Musical JR.”, based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway musical. It’s a “big bright beautiful world” as everyone’s favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.

Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he’s handed a task—if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn’t be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.

Thanks in part to the generosity of the Rapha Foundation, Pro-Art launched this reboot of its cherished summer camp with no required cost to student’s families. Instead, Pro-Art is asking participant’s families and the wider community to make a contribution to the sustainability of the camp program at any amount that is meaningful to them. “We want everyone to be able to participate in this program, but we also want it to be sustainable financially going forward,” said Pro-Art Executive Director Michael McNulty. “We hope that we can foster a community that sees the immense value of this program and helps us to make it last well into the future for the children of our region.” For more information and to make a donation, please visit proartva.org.
