Wise, VA — The Barter Players’ brand-new adaptation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is streaming FREE from March 18 – March 31, 2021 as part of Pro-Art’s Spring 2021 season. Whether it’s fishing with Huckleberry Finn, or convincing his friends to whitewash Aunt Polly’s fence, nobody lives life more than the irascible Tom Sawyer. Then one night in a spooky graveyard, Tom and Huck stumble upon a deadly secret. Will they be able to save Muff Potter before it’s too late? Join Tom and Huck on the most exciting adventure of their lives, where they learn that man’s greatest treasure is the gift of friendship.
Adapted by Barter’s playwright-in-residence, Catherine Bush, from the classic novel by Mark Twain, the production appeals to children (and adults!) of all ages. When asked recently what she believes makes Tom Sawyer’s narrative compelling to today’s audiences, Bush responded, “Well – for me – the COVID experience makes it more compelling than ever. Who wouldn’t want to go on adventures with friends these days? Who wouldn’t rather close down a Zoom meeting and hop on a raft with Tom and Huck and Joe Harper?
