THE ST. PAUL CHRISTMAS PARADE was created by the town’s Chamber of Commerce many years ago. Since then, it has remained an eagerly-anticipated annual event. Children of all ages line St. Paul’s streets to take part in this celebration of the Christmas season. The pictures below are from the 1970 parade – were you there?
For years, Glenda Lane, Event Coordinator for the Town of St. Paul, organized the Christmas parades. During those years there were some outstanding parades, including one that gridlocked on Wise Street due to the extra-large number of participants! Glenda will be retiring in December after many years of service. We appreciate all the good things she has done for us.
This year, the task of coordinating the Christmas parade has been assumed by the St. Paul-Castlewood Kiwanis Club. The club’s members are doing their best and we are confident the parade will be a fun occasion for everyone. If you’d like to participate in the parade, please check the club’s Facebook page for more information.
As in years gone by, the Clinch Valley Times will be documenting the Christmas parade in photos. At the conclusion of the parade, these photos will take their place among many others in our Clinch Valley Times archives. Years from now our area citizens of tomorrow may look at those pictures and say, “Those were The Good Old Days.”
