May 1, 2018 Castlewood— J.I. Burton upended the Lady Devils, 18 to 9, Tuesday in a Cumberland District softball match-up. Sarah Mullins led the way for the Lady Raiders with 4 hits and 4 runs scored. Tia Bates had a 3- hit game with a triple, 3 runs scored, and 4 runs driven in. Bailey Sturgill earned the win in the circle for Burton. Samantha Gray paced the Lady Devils with 4 hits and 3 runs scored. Gracie Hicks posted a 3- hit game, including a solo homerun in the 7th inning. Amy Taylor also played well for Castlewood, collecting 3 hits and scoring 2 runs.

Four consecutive base hits, in the top of the first inning, by Lilly Redman, Brooklyn Barnette, Tia Bates, and Bailey Sturgill gave the Lady Raiders a quick 3 to 0 lead. A 2-out hit by Maggie Williams made the score 5 to 0. Burton pushed their lead to 9 to 0, in the top of the second inning, with Tia Bates and Jamie Flanary knocking in 2 runs each.

Amy Taylor led off the bottom of the second frame, for the Lady Devils, with a base hit. Samantha Gray followed with a base hit. Zoe Phillips reached on an error that scored Taylor. Gracie Hicks base hit to right field scored Gray and Phillips making the score 9 to 3.

J.I. Burton held a 12 to 5 lead going into the sixth inning. Tia Bates drew a walk to lead off the inning for the Lady Raiders. Bailey Sturgill gave Burton runners at first and second with a base hit to left field. Hannah Phelps’ base hit to right field drove in Bates and Sturgill. Hits by Beylee Jenkins, Sarah Mullins, Brooklyn Barnette and Lilly Redman added 3 more runs in the inning, giving the Lady Raiders a 17 to 5 lead.
With 1 out in the bottom of the sixth inning Lillie Sanders stroked a hit up the middle. Janakay Kiser backed her up with a base hit, giving Castlewood runners on first and third. Base hits by Samantha Gray, Katrina Hughes, and a 2-RBI hit by Zoe Phillips plated 3 runs keeping Castlewood in the game, 17 to 8.

The Lady Raiders tacked on a run in the top of the seventh inning. Gracie Hicks led off the home seventh with a long blast over the fence in left field. The Lady Devils loaded the bases with one out in inning but Burton stopped the rally with a game-ending double play.
J.I. Burton scored 18 runs on 20 hits and committed 3 errors. Castlewood scored 9 runs on 16 hits and committed 4 errors.
