BRIGHT BEGINNINGS PARTICIPATES IN VIRGINIA’S CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM (CACFP)
The Virginia Department of Health’s (VDH) Special Nutrition Programs’ team is excited to celebrate the institutions participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and their efforts to combat food insecurity in the Commonwealth. Facilities approved for participation receive reimbursements for nutritious meals served to enrolled participants in their care. Care centers interested in learning more about the CACFP and seeing if they are eligible to apply for Program participation may contact VDH’s Special Nutrition Programs team at cacfp@vdh.virginia.gov or our Help Desk at 1-877-618-7282.
Notice of Center and Day Care Home CACFP Participation
Participating non-pricing sponsoring organizations, emergency shelters, centers and homes provide the same meals at no extra charge to all participants at their facility without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, gender identity (including gender expression and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity. Participating child and adult care centers will receive free or reduced price reimbursements for eligible meals served based on the following income eligibility guidelines effective July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
- Children who receive TANF, FDPIR or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or who a Head Start participant are automatically eligible for free meals. Foster children or a child who is a member of a household receiving SNAP, FDPIR, or TANF assistance or a Head Start participant are automatically eligible for free meals.
- Adult participants at enrolled adult care centers who are a part of SNAP or FDPIR households or are SSI or Medicaid participants are automatically eligible for reimbursement benefits at the free rate.
FNS Instruction 113-1, Part IX, Section A (4) (d) Public Notification. State or local agencies, and their subrecipients, must post the following nondiscrimination statement and include it, in full, on all materials regarding such programs that are produced for public information, public education, or public distribution. If a State authorizes additional language, it must be included in a separate statement.
In accordance with federal civil rights law and USDA civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its agencies, offices, employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, age, marital status, family/parental status, income derived from a public assistance program, political beliefs, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity, in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA (not all bases apply to all programs). Remedies and complaint filing deadlines vary by program or incident.
Persons with disabilities who require alternative means of communication for program information (e.g., Braille, large print, audiotape, American Sign Language, etc.) should contact the state or local agency that administers the program or contact USDA through the Telecommunications Relay Service at 711 (voice and TTY). Additionally, program information may be made available in languages other than English.
