Pound, VA – Conceived and directed by Martín Santangelo and choreographed by Bessie Award-winning principal dancer Soledad Barrio and Martín Santangelo, Noche Flamenca’s “Searching for Goya” brings to life the extraordinary art of Spanish painter Francisco de Goya, revealing Goya’s scorching political criticisms and his penetrating examinations of the human condition.
Inspired by the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibition, “Goya’s Graphic Imagination,” Santangelo reanimates Goya’s work through the language of flamenco, featuring a company of dancers, singers, and musicians whose mastery of flamenco stretches the boundaries of the art form. The production consists of 10-12 vignettes inspired by Francisco de Goya’s paintings, featuring original music, wardrobe, and lighting design, as well as original mask design by world-renowned artist Mary Frank.
Pro-Art presents Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca in “Searching for Goya” on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7 p.m. in the Wise County Performing Arts Center at J.W. Adams Combined School in Pound. A talkback will follow the performance. Tickets are $15 at the door. Children and students will be admitted free. For more information and to make reservations, please visit proartva.org.
