Lady Devils dominate on Senior Day

Castlewood honored their three senior softball players and their families before the start of Friday’s game with Thomas Walker. Amy Taylor, daughter of Tony and Jennifer Taylor; Kayla Layne, daughter of A.C. and Susie Layne; Gracie Hicks, daughter of Benji and Barbara Hicks.

May 4, 2018 Castlewood—The Lady Devils erupted for 8 runs in the second inning en route to a 16-6, Senior Day, win over visiting Thomas Walker. Gracie Hicks collected 3 hits (1 double),  scored 3 runs, and fanned 10 getting the win for the Lady Devils. Samantha Gray had a pair of hits and 4 runs driven in. Amy Taylor also had 2 hits, a RBI and scored a run for Castlewood. Madison Mayes homered and drove in 2 runs for the Lady Pioneers. Talyn Dibrell added 2 base hits and a run scored for Thomas Walker.

The Lady Devils pounded out 9 hits and led 9 to 0 after three complete innings. Thomas Walker got on the board in the top of the fourth scoring 2 run on back to back hits by Sophie Taylor and Erin Humphrey. Talyn Dibrell led off the Lady Pioneers fifth inning with a base hit. Isabella Schwartz followed with a RBI triple to the fence in left field. Madison Mayes 2-out homer to center cut the Castlewood lead to 9 to 5.

Adrianna Salyer led off the Castlewood fifth inning with a double. After two outs, a Thomas walker error, and two hit batters, the Lady Devils led 11 to 5. Zoe Phillips stroked a base hit to right field to score Lillie Sanders. Katrina Hughes run, on a wild pitch gave Castlewood a 13 to 5 lead.

Chelsey Parks singled and scored in the top of the sixth for the Lady Pioneers. Base hits by Kayla Layne, Gracie Hicks, and Samantha Gray gave the Lady Devils a 15 to 6 lead. With two outs and two strikes Katrina Hughes ripped the game-winning base hit up the middle to score Hicks, giving Castlewood the 16 to 6 win.

The Lady Devils totaled 16 runs on 15 hits and made 1 error. Thomas Walker scored 6 runs on 8 hits and committed 6 errors.
